Sofie from Alfdorf donates hair to children with cancer – a big heart!
Yesterday, 13-year-old Sofie from Alfdorf cut off her long hair for the second time, thereby making an important gesture of solidarity. The reason for the radical haircut is the donation to the German Cancer Aid. Sofie grew her hair over several years to make it available for children with cancer. However, it wasn't a fashion decision or the desire for a summer hairstyle that made her take this step. Rather, she cared about the well-being of others, as ZVW reports.
Donating hair is an action that gives many children with cancer a dignified opportunity to feel good despite their illness. According to Krebshilfe, the German Cancer Aid cooperates with the Federal Association of Second Hair Specialists (BVZ) and the wig manufacturer Rieswick & Partner. The donated hair is collected there and auctioned once a year. The proceeds from this auction will benefit the German Children's Cancer Aid.
The process of hair donation
The donated braids are stored at the Rieswick second hair factory and processed into real hair wigs. The amount of the voluntary donation that Rieswick & Partner makes to the cancer charity depends on various factors, including the length, weight, structure, color and general condition of the donated hair. This fundraising campaign not only offers hope to those affected, but also financial support for important projects in the field of children's cancer aid.
Sofie's decision to donate her hair again shows how much empathy and commitment there is in young people. Her rapid step should inspire others to also support children with cancer and help them with a hair donation, as the German Cancer Aid and its partners plan to do. Sofie's gesture is a clear sign that even with small actions you can achieve big things.
