German Mill Day: Meuschenmühle in Alfdorf opens its doors!
On Whit Monday, June 9, 2025, the Meuschenmühle in Alfdorf opened its doors for the 30th German Mill Day. This traditional mill, which dates back to 1787, attracted numerous visitors who were interested not only in the history but also in the cuisine. Fresh bread from the traditional wood-fired oven was offered, which the guests were able to enjoy to the fullest. Tours through the functioning grinding plant from the 19th century also offered an exciting insight into the past of the mill and its technology. The German Mill Day is a nationwide event at which over 1,000 historic mills open their doors. A total of nine mills in the Rems-Murr district took part in this festival, eight of which were located along the picturesque mill hiking trails in the Swabian Forest. The Swabian Forest Tourism Association had developed numerous hiking trails that led visitors to the still preserved mills. The Meuschenmühle and the other mills in the Rems-Murr district have developed into popular excursion destinations. Numerous activities were offered during Mill Day that were suitable for all ages. In addition to the culinary offerings and guided tours, the hiking trails in the Swabian Forest have their own attraction.
