Shock in Ellwangen: 78-year-old is said to have killed her husband with a knife!

In a tragic incident in Ellwangen (Ostalbkreis), a 78-year-old woman is accused of stabbing her 84-year-old husband to death. The events happened on Saturday afternoon when relatives found the two in their shared apartment. While the husband was already dead, the wife was seriously injured and the injuries were probably self-inflicted. She was immediately flown to a hospital to receive medical care. The criminal police and public prosecutor's office have started investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the crime, reports Zvw.

The incident raises questions, not only regarding the individual fate of those affected, but also with regard to violent crime in Ellwangen. In 2023, the police department recorded a significant increase in crimes. A total of 1,727 offenses were recorded, an increase of 19% compared to 2022, when 1,448 offenses were recorded. This results in a crime rate of 6,726 per 100,000 residents, compared to 5,886 the previous year. The clearance rate fell from 62.4% to 59.9%, which further aggravated the situation. What is particularly striking is the increase in bodily harm crimes, which increased from 173 to 212, reports the Swabian.

A worrying trend

In the reporting on the growing crime in Ellwangen, the crimes of brutality stand out, which have also increased - from 250 to 309. In addition, theft crime saw an increase from 336 to 435 cases, accompanied by an increase in shoplifting, which rose from 124 to 162. These statistics reflect the challenges police face. The Ellwangen police station, under the leadership of Police Chief Danilo Paul, is experiencing an increasing burden due to the broader spectrum of criminal activities.

Another worrying aspect is crime in public spaces, which has increased from 592 to 688 cases, including a recent case involving a knife. This increase in violence in everyday life is causing concern among both citizens and police and raises questions about the safety of residents in this region.

The tragic events that took place in Ellwangen not only illustrate the individual suffering of those affected, but must also be seen as part of a larger context of increasing crime in the region. It remains to be seen what additional information the ongoing investigation will uncover.
