Mittelhofschule rocks the tournament: SENSATIONAL 3rd place against the right!

INCREDIBLE! The Mittelhofschule in Ellwangen won a phenomenal third place in the spectacular “Kicking against the Right” tournament and captivated the audience in the process! This remarkable event took place on July 12, 2025 around the renowned Carl Zeiss Stadium in Oberkochen and sent an overwhelming message against the shadows of right-wing extremism and racial discrimination that grip our society.

Organized by the Ostalb District Youth Association in close cooperation with the “Partnership for Democracy Ostalbkreis” and the Württemberg Football Association, this tournament was an urgent call for tolerance and a strong word against group-related misanthropy in the Ostalbkreis. The participants not only saw exciting football games, but also an exciting supporting program with workshops, lectures and information stands.

The HEROES of Ellwangen: Strong, determined and unstoppable!

The courageous warriors of the Mittelhofschule competed as a concentrated force of students and teachers and rolled across the field! With an impressive record of winning four preliminary round games - and without conceding a single goal! – they stormed into the semi-finals. There, however, they experienced the unexpected drama of the penalty shootout against FC Internazionale, which dashed their dreams of victory. But the real story of triumph began after this setback, because in the exciting playoff for third place they defeated Welland Community School with a narrow but glorious 2-1 victory!

The team consisted of real heroes! Ilias Avdiovski, Ben Merkle, Erjon Vehapi, Haidar Mousa, Fatjon Vehapi, school social worker Andreas Friedrich, David Heindl and SMV liaison teacher Alexander Baumann – these names will go down in the annals of this very special tournament! The Mittelhofschule even plans to take part in this overwhelming event in the future, demonstrating its unwavering determination to take a stand against any form of discrimination.

A MISSION for EQUALITY

The tournament is part of the federal program against right-wing extremism and misanthropy in sport, which is run by BMI is promoted. This great program not only supports the promotion of democratic and inclusive forces in sport, but is also an indispensable tool in the fight against the threat of extremism and prejudice in our society.

Events like “Kicking Against the Right” are indispensable in order to show young people and the general public a good example and to promote concrete measures against discrimination. The strong commitment of the players makes it clear that everyone can and should find a place in sport, regardless of origin or social background.
