Unemployment in East Württemberg: Stability despite a slight increase!

The labor market in East Württemberg shows little movement in May 2025. The unemployment rate remains stable at 4.2 percent, the same as in the previous three months. However, there was an increase in the number of unemployed people by 131, meaning that a total of 10,987 people are now unemployed. Compared to the previous year, there are 1,264 more unemployed people, which corresponds to an increase of 13.0 percent Swabian newspaper reported.

Innovations and developments on the labor market

Employers in East Württemberg reported 511 new job offers in May, but this represents a decrease compared to previous weeks. The number of jobs has decreased by 305 positions and now stands at 3,111 vacancies. The Aalen Employment Agency currently looks after 5,343 people, while the Heidenheim job center and the Ostalbkreis job center look after 5,644 people, which makes up 51.4 percent of the unemployed.

There was already a slight increase in unemployment in April. At that time, 10,856 people had to look for work, which was an increase of 31 people compared to the previous month. In comparison to the previous year, there is a similar trend with 1,007 more unemployed people. Long-term unemployment is becoming increasingly entrenched, with 1,037 people losing their jobs in April - 93 more than the previous month, it said Employment Agency.

Regional differences and short-time work

A look at the regional unemployment figures shows that there are 3,875 unemployed people in the Heidenheim district, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent. In the Ostalbkreis there are 7,112 unemployed with a rate of 3.9 percent. The increase in unemployment in the Ostalbkreis is particularly noticeable, rising by 1.6 percent in May.

In May, 32 companies were also reported for short-time work, with 400 employees. This is a decrease compared to April, when there were 41 companies for 600 employees. This shows the ongoing uncertainty in the labor market in the region. In view of these figures, networking and support from the employment agency and job centers is more important than ever in order to curb unemployment and reintegrate the long-term unemployed into the labor market.
