Traffic disruptions in Bietigheim-Bissingen: L 1125 and B 27 single lane from Monday!
The comprehensive renovation of federal highway 27 in Bietigheim-Bissingen will begin next Monday, May 5, 2025. This measure, which will result in severe disruption to traffic, is being carried out jointly by several institutions, including the Stuttgart Regional Council and the Bietigheim-Bissingen municipal utility company. The work is expected to continue over a period of several months, during which traffic jams and longer travel times are to be expected. Road users without a specific destination in Bietigheim-Bissingen are asked to avoid the city as much as possible in order to avoid further traffic congestion.
The work on the B27 is divided into several construction phases. Initially, from May 26, 2025, there will only be one lane in each direction on an approximately 200 meter long section between Gröninger Weg and Industriestrasse. In addition, from June 2, 2025, there will also temporarily be only one lane for each direction of travel on the western side of the road, although this restriction will last until June 13, 2025. This also involves one-way street regulations that will apply from June 1, 2025: Poststräßle and Freibergerstraße will become dead ends, while Aspergerstraße and Etzelstraße will only be accessible in a direction out of the city.
Detours and accessibility
Diversions have been set up to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible despite the restrictions. Coming from Industriestrasse, traffic is directed back to the B27 via Asperger Strasse and Etzelstrasse. For vehicles arriving from the A81, a diversion will be made via the opposite lane of the B27. The AVIA gas station can still be reached via Asperger Straße, but the buildings at Stuttgarter Straße 147, 149 and 151 will remain inaccessible during construction work.
Parallel to the work on the B27, the L1125 state road between Bietigheim-Bissingen and Sachsenheim will also be closed for around four months. This closure, which occurs shortly before the Whitsun holidays, involves widening the roadway to around eight meters. The construction work initiated on both roads is aimed at shortening the restrictions in time and does not begin before the Whitsun holidays, but at the end of them. The city of Bietigheim-Bissingen will also provide further current information and updates about the construction project on its own website in order to keep citizens well informed.
Background information on transport infrastructure
The need for a modern and efficient transport infrastructure is also a central issue at a higher level. In Germany, the problems of federal transport planning are seen as deeply rooted. As part of the development of a new federal transport infrastructure and mobility plan, which aims to achieve climate-friendly mobility by 2040, all modes of transport should be comprehensively taken into account. There is an emerging need to rethink the existing planning approach and adapt it to current circumstances. This includes the involvement of the public and a continuous evaluation of the plans in order to design the transport system development effectively.
The mobility plan aims to create synergies and prioritize infrastructure projects efficiently. This is crucial, especially given the future challenges posed by the use of electric vehicles and the associated loss of government revenue. The construction work in Bietigheim-Bissingen therefore not only represents a local traffic adjustment, but is also part of a larger strategy to improve German traffic routes.
