On Wednesday night, unknown perpetrators stole three excavators from a company premises in the Schönfeld district. The machines, which come from the manufacturer Hitachi, have a total value of around 125,000 euros. According to Tixio, the thieves gained access to the vehicles that were located near Annaberger Straße between 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday evening and 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The perpetrators probably used a low-loader to transport the construction equipment. The police have now started an investigation into a particularly serious case of theft and are asking the public for help. Residents in the Schönfeld area in particular are asked to report any suspicious observations. In addition, the material damage caused by the theft amounts to around 3,000 euros.
Investigations are in full swing
The police are doing everything they can to find the perpetrators as quickly as possible to prevent further thefts. There have been several similar incidents in the region in recent months, affecting citizens' sense of security. The ongoing series of deep steel construction machinery cases is the focus of local investigators.
A little later, the issue of the use of excavators in a different context became known nationwide when the police were called to an operation in a dramatic situation. A man went on a destruction trip with an excavator and was ultimately shot by the police, as Spiegel reported. These incidents shed light on the dangers that can arise from incorrectly used construction equipment and are leading to increased police surveillance of such vehicles.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately to increase security in their neighborhoods and prevent possible crimes. It remains to be seen what new information the police can gain regarding the stolen excavators and whether the current investigations will lead to an increasing number of such crimes being solved.
