Huge flames in Korntal-Münchingen: 1.5 million euros in damage!

Early on Sunday morning there was a significant fire on the premises of a building materials company in Korntal-Münchingen, a town in the Ludwigsburg district. The fire department had to arrive with a large contingent to extinguish the flames. The material damage amounts to around 1.5 million euros. Due to the strong smoke and odor nuisance, residents were informed via the “Nina” warning app and asked to keep windows and doors closed to avoid health risks. This warning has now been lifted as the fire has been successfully extinguished. However, a fire-fighting team remains on site to monitor possible embers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently unknown, reports daily news.

The damage to the company is significant, as several silos were severely damaged and an entire loading hall burned down. Damage was also found to three trucks that were parked on the site. While the fire brigade was operating, the region was also affected by heavy rain, which made extinguishing work considerably more difficult. In this context, there was also another incident in Korntal-Münchingen, where lightning struck the roof of a single-family home. The residents were able to escape in time and alert the fire department, who mobilized several firefighting teams, including a turntable ladder, to fight the fire. The material damage is estimated at at least 100,000 euros, explained SWR.

More fire incidents in the region

Even outside of the first incident, there were hot calls for the fire brigade in the Ludwigsburg district area. In Aichtal, in the neighboring Esslingen district, a fire broke out on a balcony of an apartment building, the cause of which is still unclear. A 34-year-old resident tried to intervene by putting out the fire himself, but was unsuccessful. Here too, the fire brigade from Aichtal and Filderstadt were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The resident sustained minor injuries and had to be treated on site by emergency services. The damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros, but the building remains habitable.

The ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire in both cases shows that weather conditions such as thunderstorms and lightning strikes in particular can play a significant role in the outbreak of fire. Developments in the coming days will be closely monitored to better understand the exact causes and consequences of these incidents.
