SV Sandhausen: Goalkeeping talent David Zimmer is staying and looking forward!

On June 7, 2025 there will be news from SV Sandhausen: The club has committed 18-year-old goalkeeper David Zimmer to them on a long-term basis. Zimmer, who was born on December 15, 2006 in Heidelberg, returned from Darmstadt for the 2024/25 season and will now be gradually introduced to the men's division. Coach Olaf Janßen emphasizes his enormous potential, especially his calm, security and reliability in goal.

Zimmer began his football training at SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim in 2013 and moved to SV Sandhausen's Hardtwald Campus in 2017. Before he returned in 2024, he played for four years in the youth team at SV Darmstadt 98 and in the meantime had stints at FC Speyer 09. With his impressive 1.98 meters tall, he is one of the greats in goal.

Positive assessments from the club management

Kevin Stotz, the head of the Hardtwald Campus, described rooms as an important building block for the club's future. He praised Zimmer's quick integration into the U19 team, where the goalkeeper is already a constant. The 18-year-old said that he felt comfortable at SV Sandhausen and is proud to take this next step. He promised to work hard to pursue his path in football.

With the signing of the contract, David Zimmer is the ninth player in the squad for the 2025/26 season. It was agreed not to disclose the exact terms of the contract, which is usually standard practice for such transfers.

Successes of the youth teams

However, the positive developments at SV Sandhausen are not just limited to David Zimmer. The U19 team also recently showed a convincing performance in the first home game of the 2024 season. Despite an early lead from Greuther Fürth and a temporary defeat to lead 1:2, SV Sandhausen was able to equalize in stoppage time with a Fürth own goal and thus secure a point. Coach André Philipp was generally positive about his team's performance, which performed skillfully time and time again despite numerous injured players.

The good work in the youth sector is also evident in the other youth teams at SV Sandhausen. The U16 became indoor district champions in the Heidelberg district and the U14 won the NewTelco indoor tournament in Stockstadt. The U13 was also able to successfully complete various tournaments and qualified for the Baden Championships.

Overall, it shows that SV Sandhausen is not only focusing on the short-term development of its men's team, but is also actively working to promote young talent. With David Zimmer at the helm of the increasingly strong youth teams, the future of the SVS is promising.
