Talent factory SGV Freiberg: 13-year-old moves to Bayern Munich!
Gabriel Eljuga, a 13-year-old soccer talent, will move from SGV Freiberg to FC Bayern Munich. This makes him the first player in the history of SGV Freiberg to move directly to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. This step marks an important moment both for the young player and for his previous club, which is considered the leading address in the youth sector in the Stuttgart region. Eljuga started his career at SGV Freiberg in 2016 and quickly developed into captain of the C youth team. Under his leadership, the team achieved promotion to the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga.
The SGV Freiberg has a structured youth concept for the sporting and personal development of its talents. The club has also set up a youth development center that includes young players from Bambinis to U19. The goal of the youth players is clearly defined: promotion to the first team and the associated path to a professional career. For young talents like Eljuga, moving to FC Bayern Munich is not only a personal dream, but also an impressive option for their hopes of a successful sporting future.
Young talent work at SGV Freiberg
In the 2024/25 regional league season, the SGV Freiberg first team took third place. These successes are also the result of consistent youth work that constantly produces talent. This summer, a total of eleven youth players from the SGV are moving to higher-class clubs, including well-known names such as Benjamin Luippold to the Stuttgarter Kickers and Joshua Veigel and Ray Ekeh to VfB Stuttgart. Ivo Popic, the sporting director of the SGV youth, emphasizes the high quality of the training structure and the focus on educational support, which is supplemented by regular development discussions with parents.
Herbert “Hebbe” Offenbächer, also active in the youth sector, adds that the attitude and human support of the talented people are of great importance. He is proud of the success of the youth work, even if the club feels the sporting pain of the departures. In the youth department, over 250 talented players are looked after by around 50 employees who look after the individual development of the young athletes. The modern training conditions, consisting of an artificial turf pitch and two grass pitches, support the club's ambitious goals.
Competition and development
SGV Freiberg competes against other top-class youth centers such as TSG Hoffenheim, Darmstadt 98 and FC Heidenheim. The club also uses competitions such as the KSK Junior Cup and the Smiley Cup to promote sporting competition and team spirit among young players. Despite the painful loss of talent like Eljuga, the club's management is committed to pursuing a long-term training strategy to create the best conditions for a professional football career.
With the signing of Gabriel Eljuga, SGV Freiberg has once again shown that its young heroes are not only in demand locally, but also internationally. The club's work can prove to be an effective springboard for many young talents who want to pursue football's big dreams.
