Pioneering water: New hall opened for the Main-Tauber Group!

The importance of clean, warm water in swimming pools has increased in recent years. This is proven by the developments of the companies Aquila and Main-Tauber-Kunststoff, which were founded 25 years ago by Reimund Klein, Jan Behner and Wolfgang Clärding. Today, Behner and Clärding are still active as managing partners and emphasize how crucial water quality is for swimming pools. Wolfgang Clärding emphasizes that every water is different and therefore individual solutions are needed to meet the needs of customers. With an employee base of around 170 people, the group of companies has grown and is currently working on around 25 projects of various sizes.

The use of water treatment systems is becoming increasingly important worldwide. According to GmInsights, the water treatment equipment market size was $65.1 billion in 2023. The projected annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6% between 2024 and 2032 highlights the increasing demand for effective solutions in water treatment, driven by strict regulations and technological innovations, among others. This also correlates with the work of the companies mentioned, which have to adapt to these developments.

Challenges and opportunities

Companies have shifted their focus from equipping small school swimming pools to large sports and leisure pools. A key customer is the “Rulantica” leisure pool in Europa Park, which has been working with the company since 2018. Despite declines in investments in small pools, there are concepts to economically overcome the challenges created by the loss of the Russian market due to sanctions.

The group of companies has important regional customers such as Solymar in Bad Mergentheim and school swimming pools in Marktheidenfeld, Lohr and Würzburg. A current important project involves the construction of the new Rebstockbad in Frankfurt am Main. In order to remain sustainable, the company strives for climate neutrality and has introduced appropriate measures, including the use of a 180 kWp PV system.

Innovations in water treatment

The water treatment industry is increasingly looking at innovative technologies such as micro and nanofiltration. These advances also result from the requirements of the current market research reports, which recognize high initial costs and strict legal requirements as challenges, but at the same time as an incentive for further developments. For example, by 2030, desalination capacity is expected to increase to 200 million cubic meters per day. The applications in areas such as agriculture, chemistry and pharmacy also illustrate the economic relevance of water treatment.

Finally, to mark the group's anniversary, a new steel construction hall will be inaugurated at the Reinhardshof location. New workshops, storage rooms and offices will be built on an area of 1,400 square meters to further support the company's expansion plans. The future of water treatment is promising and developments within the group of companies are already showing positive trends in the industry.
