Important A6 motorway near Nuremberg: closure announced for weeks!

As a result of extensive construction work, the A6 motorway near Nuremberg is being significantly affected. The work, which has been underway since July 1, 2023, will now continue to expand the southern section of the A6 to six lanes. The current construction site stretches between the Auergrundel and Schwabach-Süd junctions and is around 12 kilometers long.

How merkur.de reported, the construction work is associated with significant restrictions for drivers. The motorway in the direction of Nuremberg will be closed until the end of August 2025, although the exact end date of the closure remains unclear. To redirect traffic, the route via the Heilbronn direction will be used to direct traffic flows towards Nuremberg.

Another aspect of these comprehensive measures is the asphalting of the road, which is the main reason for the closure. After completion of the work, additional measures to equip the roads and the dismantling of traffic safety measures are planned. Another important point is the speed limit of 80 km/h in both directions, which will remain in force during the construction work.

According to industry reports, such construction projects are necessary to improve traffic flow on one of the most important connections in Bavaria. “Expanding the A6 to six lanes contributes to the long-term solution to traffic problems in the region,” emphasizes a spokesman for the responsible authority.

In addition, it is not just the work on the A6 that is an issue: other motorways in Bavaria, such as the A3, are also currently closed due to similar construction work. This extensive infrastructure measure is part of a larger strategy to improve the traffic situation in the Free State.

The measures will begin on July 1, 2025, with the aim of significantly improving overall road safety and traffic flow following the closure of the motorway. These aspects underline the importance of such projects for a sustainable transport infrastructure in Germany.
