Giessen shopping center celebrates 20 years with a sweet bakery contest!
As part of the 20th anniversary of Giessen's Neustädter shopping center, an exciting hobby baker competition took place on May 31st. The event attracted a large number of visitors and gave participants the chance to show off their baking skills. A total of nine cakes were judged, with one baker not arriving on time due to a delay. The variety of cakes was impressive, including delicious options such as chocolate cream, Oreo blueberry and a marshmallow cream cake.
21-year-old Susanna Karapetyan won the competition with her delicious strawberry and chocolate cake, securing first place and being rewarded with a voucher worth 300 euros. Second place went to Laura Geriis with a refreshing lemon raspberry cake, followed by Kausan Mohammadi, who took third place with his two-tier banana cake. Both received vouchers worth 200 euros and 100 euros, while all other participants received a consolation prize of 25 euros.
Competition process and highlights
The competition was launched with a shopping session on Friday May 30th, where participants had a budget of 50 euros to purchase their ingredients. On Saturday, May 31, the final took place on the ground floor of the center, where the three best cakes were chosen at 4 p.m. From 2 p.m., visitors had the opportunity to taste the cakes and vote for their favorites, with 50 judges selected to evaluate the baked goods based on taste, appearance and creativity.
The implementation of the competition generated a lot of enthusiasm. Jano Steil, a participant, expressed his wish to take part in this event in the future. Giessen General reports that the competition is to be established as a regular event in the Neustädter shopping center.
Looking into the future
The exciting event and the high level of creativity of the amateur bakers motivated the organizers to continue the competition in the future. The opportunity to win prize money of up to 300 euros certainly appealed to many participants and could make the event an integral part of Giessen's cultural scene. Gießener Anzeiger emphasizes that the event not only promotes the idea of competition, but also strengthens community and exchange within the region.
