Get out of school: Students discover the forest in Göppingen!

Today, June 5, 2025, an interesting educational program called “Forest.Climate.Nutrition” began in the Göppingen district. This innovative project is carried out by the German Forest Protection Association in cooperation with the Göppingen district forestry office and receives financial support from Volksbank Göppingen. The target group are students in grades 5 to 7.

The program lasts three school hours in which participants learn about important aspects of how forests function and their influence on the climate and nutrition. A central component is also examining the connection between climatic changes and one's own behavior. The forest educators use various methods, ranging from experimentation and research to creative designs with natural materials.

Execution and enthusiasm

The kick-off events took place on May 28th and June 4th in the forest around Staufeneck, near the Salacher Staufeneckschule. Despite the rainy weather, the students' enthusiasm was unbroken. Forest educator Bernd Daughtermann led the events and conveyed exciting content to the participants through perception and mindfulness exercises.

The “Forest.Climate.Nutrition” project is part of a larger context to promote forest education. As the forest education server reports, the platform is a valuable collection of free educational and information materials on the subject of forests. These bundle different areas of application for educational and informational purposes. Educational server forest further explains that the project “Forest and Climate Education Network – The Climate Experts” is funded as part of the Forest Climate Fund, which was launched on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).

The forest climate fund, which is financed from resources from the energy and climate fund, is supported by the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. (FNR). This underlines the importance of educational projects to raise awareness of future generations about ecological issues and the preservation of our forests.
