Wolfmaier remains rector: Esslingen University relies on continuity!

Christof Wolfmaier was re-elected rector of Esslingen University. In a joint meeting of the University Council and Senate, he received the absolute majority of votes. Wolfmaier's new term begins on September 1, 2025. This was stated in a report by the Stuttgart News announced.

Markus Sontheimer, chairman of the university council, praised Wolfmaier's work over the past six years. Wolfmaier sees the university's current situation as positive in terms of student numbers, teaching and research. An important project is the planned new building in Weststadt, which will create a new university location next year. Wolfmaier, who has been working at Esslingen University since 1994, was previously dean of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering. In 2019 he was appointed rector after successfully leading the faculty and impressing with numerous collaborations and projects.

The rector was born in Schorndorf near Stuttgart in 1961 and began his career after completing his vocational training as a car body builder in 1981. After military service and the second educational opportunity, he studied car body and aircraft construction, which provided him with the basis for his in-depth engineering training. In 1988, Wolfmaier began working as a designer at the Baur body factory in Stuttgart and was significantly involved in the development of products for well-known automobile manufacturers.

Particularly worth mentioning is his founding of an engineering office for automotive technology, which he launched in 1998.
