Sad Pentecost Sunday: person drowned in Lake Aileswasen!

A tragic incident occurred in the Aileswasensee in the Esslingen district on Whit Sunday when a person drowned in the water. Eyewitnesses reported that the person initially flailed his arms before going under. Despite the immediate alerting of rescue workers and the timely search, the missing person could not be found. This was carried out with the support of 37 emergency services from the German Life Saving Society (DLRG), fire brigade, police and rescue service, but the search had to be stopped after around two hours as unsuccessful, as stern.de reports.

After the initial search using a sonar device, two prominent locations in the lake were identified, but the missing person remained untraceable. The Aileswasensee will of course be closed for three days to prevent passers-by from possibly coming across the body in the water. It is expected that the body could rise to the surface in the coming days. A new search with the sonar device is already planned for Monday or Tuesday.

Safety measures at Lake Aileswasen

The Aileswasensee has a long tradition in water rescue. On nice days, the lake is a popular destination for families and water sports lovers. The DLRG water rescue service ensures that swimming operations run safely. The day begins at 9 a.m. at the station with a shared breakfast, followed by a walk around the lake. Both the condition of the bank and the access options for ambulances are checked, as explained on the DLRG website neuffen-beuren.dlrg.de.

The guard station on the “sandy beach” is regularly manned, with at least two lifeguards monitoring bathing operations, especially around children. The lifeguards are equipped with aids such as fins, life buoys and first aid materials. In smaller first aid cases, measures can be taken immediately.

The emergency services are connected via radio so that they can immediately request support in the event of more serious incidents. Patrol officers rotate regularly to ensure maximum security. During less busy times, lifeguards can also go into the water themselves.

These incidents highlight the importance of safety and vigilance around waterways, especially during the swimming season. The DLRG's commitment is commendable and cannot be questioned, even on days like the tragic Whitsun Sunday.
