SCANDALOUS WAIT: Cycle path between Altbach and Plochingen has been dilapidated for 6 years!
In a deeply alarming scenario that is testing the bicycle-friendly vision of an entire region, a RENOVATION of the cycle path between Altbach and Plochingen has been waiting for more than six years! The mayors Martin Funk (Altbach) and Frank Buß (Plochingen) have urged the state of Baden-Württemberg to FINALLY take the necessary measures to restore the dilapidated cycle path, which has been considered in dire need of catastrophic renovation since 2019. The Esslinger Zeitung reports on this dramatic situation that is making life hell for many commuters and students.
The cycle path is not just an everyday path, but a vital connection route that serves hundreds of cyclists as a route to school in Plochingen! The lack of safety precautions, such as the much needed and long overdue ford markings, pose an INCREDIBLE danger to students and cyclists. Failure to implement these necessary safety measures in a timely manner could result in DANGERS beyond imagination! The cycle path is part of the RadNETZ-BW, which is intended to promote safe and environmentally friendly mobility and is described by the mayors as an absolute “must-have”.
Dramatic demands on the government!
The mayors have underlined the urgency of the renovation in shocking words and have made the state responsible for the construction work, which must act immediately. The Reutlingen Police Department agrees and has already welcomed the installation of lighting for the safety of users! But where is the decisive action of the political committees? The Ministry of Transport is also committed to the RadNETZ, which aims to increase bicycle use by an incredible 20 percent by 2030, but the current situation threatens to undo all this progress!
The question remains: Why are important infrastructure projects like this on the brink while organizations and municipalities are constantly fighting to make progress in promoting cycling? The free space for cycle paths and their improvements, which improve air quality and reduce parking pressure in city centers, could be threatened!
A call for mobilization!
We live in a time where switching to bicycles represents a growing excellence in mobility! E-bikes and (e-)cargo bikes are increasing in households as the population becomes increasingly aware of sustainable mobility. But what about the existing cycle paths? Are you sure? Are they appealing? The relevance of cycling only increases if people are offered appropriate conditions!
Time is running out! NOW is the moment when the voice of the citizens must be heard loud and clear. Let us together denounce the shameless neglect of our cycle path network and call on those responsible to finally take action. It's high time for a change in cycling, no more excuses - every second counts!
