Radschnellweg Plochingen: New bridge and 800 meters for commuters!
The Radschnellweg through the Fils and Neckartal continues shape, but the section in Plochingen still faces challenges. Despite the inauguration of a new section between Plochingen and Göppingen, the Plochingen area remains unfinished for the time being. By autumn 2025, however, a solution for this critical section is to be found, such as the reported.
A few weeks ago, a new bridge over the Fils was inaugurated a few weeks ago. At the same time, an 800 meter long expansion section of the Radschnellweg 14 (RS 14) was opened. This positive step was taken up by numerous supporters of the project and demands a faster and safer cycling infrastructure for commuters.inauguration of the new section
The official opening of the new section took place with a joint drive with the participation of the Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann, the government president Susanne Bay as well as regional district administrators and mayors. The Radkultur initiative was also on site and, with creative soil markings and colorful accents, set a sign of the new cycle path planning. For this purpose, a free bike check was offered, in which experienced mechanics checked the bicycles of the participants on safety -related components. According to Radschnellweg Filstal , the cycling fast paths should help to redesign the mobility in Baden-Württemberg.
Winfried Hermann emphasized during the opening ceremony that cycling speeds are an essential part of a future -proof mobility. His goal is that around 20 percent of the paths in Baden-Württemberg will be covered by bike by 2030. Susanne Bay emphasized the new bridge over the Fils as an impressive technical building and thanked the road construction office of the districts of Esslingen and Göppingen for their planning and implementation.
nature conservation measures and further planning
An important aspect of the project are the measures to be used for nature conservation that have been taken since 2023. This includes the establishment of a refuge for fence lizards and the attachment of nesting aids to support the local fauna. According to the feasibility study, up to 2,000 cyclists per day are expected on the newly opened section.
The construction costs for the new section, including the Filsbrücke, amount to around 3.9 million euros, with the federal government covering around 75 percent of the costs. The expansion of the cycle path 14 will continue, with further municipal planning until the middle of 2026 - but without the section in Uhingen.
