New album from Six Feet Under: Chris Barnes announces studio time!

Death metal band SIX FEET UNDER will enter the studio in June 2025 to record the follow-up album to “Killing For Revenge”. Frontman Chris Barnes shared on social media that he and guitarist Jack Owen have already finished writing the new album. “Killing For Revenge” was only released in May 2024 via Metal Blade Records and captures the brutal death metal style the band is known for. The album's cover features classic Vince Locke illustrations, reminiscent of Cannibal Corpse's early days. This close relationship with Cannibal Corpse is no coincidence, as Barnes and Owen were previously members of that band.

The collaboration between Chris Barnes and Jack Owen marks the second collaboration since they reunited for the album Nightmares Of The Decomposed in 2020. Owen provided production on the final album, which was released on CD, digital and vinyl. In an interview, Barnes explained that the writing process for "Killing For Revenge" was very collaborative and was in some ways inspired by Cannibal Corpse's first album "Eaten Back to Life".

The current line-up and musical direction

The current line-up of SIX FEET UNDER consists of:

  • Chris Barnes – Gesang
  • Jack Owen – Rhythmusgitarre
  • Ray Suhy – Leadgitarre
  • Jeff Hughell – Bass
  • Marco Pitruzzella – Schlagzeug

Barnes is very positive about the abilities of his bandmates and emphasizes that despite his sole dominance in the band's history, the dynamics and creativity are at a high level. “Killing For Revenge” contains special elements, such as the guest appearance of guitarist Jason Suecof in the track “Neanderthal”, which enriches the album musically.

The challenges in death metal

However, producing and releasing music in death metal is no walk in the park. Barnes spoke about the financial challenges bands face, particularly the rising costs of touring. Despite these difficulties, the enthusiasm for the music and the commitment to the project remains unchanged. Fans of SIX FEET UNDER already have the prospect of another album being planned, which has been completed since December 2024. This announcement has only increased the anticipation among the band's followers.

The history of metal shows that the genre has gone through many ups and downs, starting in the late 1960s and continuing through developments that gave rise to a variety of subgenres in the 1980s. During this time, new trends emerged within the metal scene that emerged as a reaction to popular developments such as glam metal. These constant interactions show that the metal scene remains dynamic and resilient, including its representatives like SIX FEET UNDER, who have found their own niche in brutal death metal and continue to create innovative music.
