Golf Croquet Conquers Owen Sound: Open House June 14th!
On June 14, 2025, Roselawn Bowling Club in Owen Sound will open its doors for a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This day will see the Golf Croquet Open House, which aims to introduce the popular game of Golf Croquet to both the club and the wider community. The event is free and is aimed at anyone interested in the game, regardless of their level of experience.
Under the guidance of renowned Canadian golf croquet masters Adam Barr and John Richardson, participants can learn the basics of the game. Equipment will be provided by the club, but participants are required to bring flat shoes to ensure stability on the field.
The game and its rules
Golf Croquet is an exciting game played in teams of two. The goal is to be the first to get through seven designated gates, also called hoops. The first team to score four goals wins. Teamwork and strategy are the focus of golf croquet and promote team spirit.
Roselawn Club President Lynn Beaton spoke positively about the game's introduction: "Golf Croquet is a popular addition to many lawn bowling clubs. Our goal is to bring people together to play and socialize." This event is intended to not only promote the game but also strengthen the community.
Support and future events
Implementation of the Golf Croquet program was supported by a grant from the Gray Bruce Community Foundation, and Croquet Canada also provided funding. Materials were sponsored by Oakley Woods Croquet, a Canadian manufacturer based in Brighton, Ontario.
In addition to the Golf Croquet Open House, the Roselawn Bowling Club offers a full calendar of events. The bowling season begins on May 19th and is accompanied by various events, such as National Bowls Day on June 7th, followed by the spring annual general meeting on June 10th. A weekly league competition then starts on July 2nd.
