A new quiet spot has arrived in Esslingen's old town. A bench was set up behind the Franciscan Church, which was financed by donations from the charity show “We're moving something” led by Winfried Kampmann. This bench now stands in a stylish left-hand bend on Franziskanergasse and invites passers-by to pause and take a look at the charming half-timbered houses opposite. The construction made of light, uncolored wood is decorated with a metal plaque emblazoned with the words “Lieblingsplatz”. The Esslinger Zeitung reports that this place is not only a quiet place to linger, but also the result of a successful fundraising gala.
The “We are moving something” gala, which took place in its 16th edition in December 2024, is an integral part of Esslingen's cultural life and is attended by many citizens. During the event, a particularly entertaining element was held - a hall bet - in which 2000 euros were raised through the sale of special stamps and Christmas cards. In addition to this bet, there was also a remarkable moment: a cardboard bench was set up on stage in just three minutes and 20 seconds. The proceeds from the gala support the Esslinger Zeitung's Christmas fundraising campaign, which traditionally supports those in need in the region.
Special talents and charity in the family
Winfried Kampmann, the organizer of the charity show, has a special connection to this location as his first fundraising galas took place there. At the events on December 2nd, 2023 in the Schauspielhaus of the Württembergische Landesbühne, young talents as well as established artists can be seen in a varied program. From music to dance to acrobatics, there is something for every taste. The Esslinger Zupforchester will perform under the direction of Hans-Georg Kuch with talents from three generations. The Esslinger Raccoons cheerleaders will also present a creative performance.
Another highlight is the “wheelchair fencing show fight”, in which athletes from the youth national team are present. The acrobatics numbers, presented by the Circus AG of the Agapedia children's house, also promise entertainment for the whole family. A solo singing by young talents from the “govocal” singing school from Stuttgart rounds off the program. The event details show that the gala specifically brings inclusion to the stage and thus sends an important signal.
