Margrafenschule Altensteig inspires at school choir days in Esslingen!

The 33rd Baden-Württemberg School Choir Days took place in Esslingen am Neckar on May 26, 2025. Around 90 primary school students from the Margrafenschule Altensteig, led by Johanna May, were proud of their performance when they presented five songs from their current program to a full hall in the “Neuer Blarer”. The event, which is advertised by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, allowed all school choirs in the state to apply until February 7th. The organizational implementation is the responsibility of the Center for School Quality and Teacher Training (ZSL) in the Ludwigsburg branch.

The performance of the elementary school choir aroused great enthusiasm among the audience, who thanked them for the performances with frenetic applause. These school choir days not only showcase musical talent, but also promote a sense of community among the students.

Circus events at the Margrave School

Another highlight of the Margrafenschule Altensteig was the “Bambi” circus from Bad Teinach-Zavelstein, which was a recent guest. 87 fourth graders rehearsed 24 circus acts for four hours every day for a week. Under the guidance of circus director Wolle Bannikow and his assistants, the students learned various tricks, including juggling, tightrope walking, aerial acrobatics and clown numbers.

The circus animals, which included a dog named “Zilly,” a goat named “Sami,” a pot-bellied pig named “Pinky,” as well as three poodles and a pony, were another highlight of the performance. In addition to many younger talents, the stage was also equipped with the necessary circus equipment, including caravans and baggage wagons, an open-air stable for the animals and a bell tent in the stadium.

Preparations and performance

Before the public performance, deputy director Matthias Wagner gave a speech and prepared the audience for the various performances. The opening number featured two boys on a tightrope, followed by diabolo players, aerial acrobats, fakirs on boards of nails as well as clowns and animal trainers. The animal training included performances of the goat, the pony and the dancing poodles.

The event was not just an art performance; During intermission, spectators were able to enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and candy. These experiences impressively show how much joy is created for the students at the Margrafenschule Altensteig, both through musical and dramatic activities.
