The Swabian Alb Association of Baltmannsweiler has created a special highlight for hiking enthusiasts: a new hiking route was developed as part of the celebrations for the triple anniversary of the municipality of Baltmannsweiler and Hohengehren and the entire community. The route, which is around eight kilometers long, is called the “Jubiläumsweg” and is already very popular. It connects the two districts and leads past some of the most important sights.
Baltmannsweiler is celebrating 725 years this year, while Hohengehren looks back on 750 years of history. In addition, the 50th anniversary of the entire community is celebrated. The anniversary path not only leads past the cultural center in Baltmannsweiler, but also offers breathtaking views and leads past a future local history museum and other historical sights. It has been officially signposted since mid-May and aims to promote the togetherness of the two districts, like Esslinger Newspaper reported.
A variety of hiking options in the region
The local group of the Albverein has marked a total of seven circular hiking trails in Baltmannsweiler. These are marked with a black number in a yellow square and begin and end at the sports and cultural center parking lot. The routes offer a suitable challenge for every hiking enthusiast and are well signposted.
- Route 1 – 5 km: Rund um Baltmannsweiler
- Route 2 – 6 km: Über Parkhaus – Steinenbacher Hof – Hohengehren – Hirschstraße – Schule – Eitisbachtal/Kläranlage – Bauhof
- Route 3 – 7 km: Über Gschläghütte – Lützelbachtal – Weißer Weg – Kurze Richtstatt – Wannenweg
- Route 4 – 8 km: Über Gschläghütte – Schachen – Esslinger Weg – Schlösslesplatz – Parkhaus
- Route 5 – 9 km: Über Zinkstraße – Staugasse – Katzenbachtal – Holderstein – Hohengehren
- Route 6 – 10 km: Über Schlösslesplatz – Toblesklinge – Kohnbachtal – Baach – Steinenbacher Hof
- Route 7 – 8 km: Über Parkhaus – Steinenbacher Hof – Tannhof – Rainweg – Brühlstraße – Schurwaldstraße
A special attraction is the geological and local history circular route, which takes around five hours to walk and brings you closer to the nature and history of the area. The Swabian Alb: A hiking paradise
The new hiking route and the existing paths are located in the picturesque Swabian Alb, which is known for its impressive landscape. The region impresses with a combination of green meadows, dense forests and rugged cliffs on the Albtrauf. In this largest karst area in Germany there are more than 2,500 caves and numerous geological features that can be explored on specially designed hiking trails. These paths also provide information about the fascinating history of the earth with marine fossils and volcanic phenomena.
The immense range of hiking and climbing opportunities attracts numerous nature lovers. There are a total of nine main hiking trails for hikers, which are supervised by the Swabian Alb Association and well signposted.
