Bundeswehr strengthens logistics: Hundreds of Mercedes Benz Arocs ordered!

The Bundeswehr has awarded a significant contract to Daimler Truck to improve its military transport capabilities. This concerns an order for a medium three-digit number of Mercedes-Benz Arocs vehicles, which are to be delivered by the end of May 2026. However, the exact contract value was not published Wall Street Online reported.

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs vehicles are specifically designed for use off asphalt roads. The Arocs 6×6 type ordered is a three-axle logistics truck with all-wheel drive that offers a payload of up to ten tons. These vehicles were designed with difficult terrain in mind, including wetlands and river crossings. The trucks also have limited military options, including a special camouflage paint job.

Technical details of the Arocs trucks

In addition to the military adaptations, the Mercedes-Benz Arocs trucks offer numerous technical features that make them ideal for use in the military. They have a water crossing capability of up to 0.9 meters and are equipped with a powerful OM 470 engine that provides 335 kW (455 hp) and a torque of 2,200 Nm. The Powershift 3 automated manual transmission provides additional flexibility, while the vehicles meet the EU Euro VI emissions standard, such as Machine market supplemented.

The Arocs 6×6 trucks are manufactured in a German-French production network, with various components coming from specialized factories. The axles are produced in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel, the transmissions in Gaggenau and the engines in Mannheim. Final assembly and military-specific equipment take place in Molsheim, France. The military equipment, including the special camouflage paintwork, is already being taken over by Sonntag Fahrzeugbau, which ensures that the vehicles are chemical-resistant and the risk of detection is minimized.

The order of these Arocs vehicles is part of a comprehensive procurement strategy by the German federal government, which aims to significantly strengthen the military transport capacities of the Bundeswehr. Given the global security situation, this step appears to be essential in order to meet the requirements of modern military operations.
