Singing talent from Kirchheim triumphs at the German Choir Festival!
The singing classes 6b and 7b of the Ludwig-Uhland-Gymnasium Kirchheim (LUG) showed an outstanding performance at the German Choir Festival in Nuremberg, which took place on Sunday. Again Teckbote reported, they were able to win the coveted first prize in the children's choirs category, scoring an impressive 14 out of 15 possible points.
In total, more than 400 choirs with over 9,000 singers from all over Germany took part in this important event. The evaluation of the performances included several aspects such as intonation, stage presence and musical design. The participating choirs had the opportunity to perform in concert halls and churches in the city, which gave the choir festival a special atmosphere.
The program and the preparation
The LUG program included classical choral literature, a spiritual with double bass and body percussion and two traditional folk songs from Ireland and Israel. The intensive preparation, which took several months, was recognized as crucial to the success of the choirs. The musical commitment at the Ludwig-Uhland-Gymnasium is reflected in the orientation of the music profile, which offers students intensive music lessons and numerous performance opportunities.
What is particularly noteworthy is that even students without a music profile can actively participate in the school's musical life. They are part of various choirs, an orchestra and a big band and thus have the chance to develop their musical skills.
The German Choir Festival
The German Choir Festival takes place every four years German Choir Association (DCV) organizes and represents one of the largest events of its kind in Germany. It offers a platform for vocal ensembles of all genres and line-ups and promotes exchange between the choirs and the audience.
The first German Choir Festival took place in Bremen in 2008 and has steadily grown in importance since then. Back in 2012, more than 400 choirs took part in the event in Frankfurt am Main, which underlines the popularity and enthusiasm for choral music. Despite the challenges posed by the corona pandemic, the last choir festival in May 2022 in Leipzig was held successfully with around 350 choirs.
The next edition of the choir festival will take place in Nuremberg from May 29th to June 1st, 2025 and once again promises a great event for all music lovers.
