A8 drama late in the evening: aquaplaning injures several families!
Late in the evening of June 16, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident on the A8 motorway between Kirchheim (Teck) and Wendlingen in Baden-Württemberg. During heavy rains that caused aquaplaning, a 30-year-old man lost control of his Mercedes. He collided with a Ford that had several occupants in it. Both vehicles crashed into the guardrail and skidded across the road, resulting in a dramatic situation.
The time of the accident was around 11 p.m. A total of ten people were affected. Four occupants of the Ford, including two boys aged 7 and 11, had to be taken to hospitals for medical treatment. The driver of the Mercedes, however, remained uninjured. According to the emergency services, there had been several other incidents due to aquaplaning on the A8 before this accident, which underlines the danger of the route. The highway was temporarily closed, which led to a long traffic jam in the region, as t-online.de reports.
Weather conditions and previous accidents
The weather conditions were exceptionally bad that evening. Heavy rain not only led to aquaplaning during the last accident, but had also led to other incidents on the A8 near Kirchheim unter Teck in the past. On March 24, 2025, two traffic accidents occurred within a short period of time due to similar weather conditions. The first accident was caused by a 48-year-old driver of an Audi who crashed into the central barrier and had to end his journey in the middle lane. He suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital. The material damage amounted to around 10,000 euros. The second accident involved a 32-year-old VW driver who also lost control of his car, spun several times and crashed into the right guardrail. Fortunately, this driver was uninjured, but the damage to his vehicle was also significant, also around 10,000 euros, as swp.de reported.
The police have not yet officially commented on these incidents, but it is clear that the recurring problem of aquaplaning in adverse weather conditions poses a serious danger to drivers. Road users should drive carefully, especially during periods of rain, and react appropriately to the road conditions.
