Nabu information evening on the Allgäu-Upper Swabia biosphere area canceled!

The planned information event by NABU (German Nature Conservation Association) on the Allgäu-Upper Swabia biosphere area was canceled due to safety concerns. This is reported by the Stuttgart News. The information evening should take place in the TSV Hochdorf clubhouse in the Biberach district. This rejection comes in a context in which the discussion about the biosphere area is at times tense.

The planned Allgäu-Upper Swabia biosphere area is currently being prepared in the test phase and would represent the third in Baden-Württemberg, after areas already exist in the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. According to the SWR The area covers around 70,000 hectares and is divided into three zones: core zones, maintenance zones and development zones. This zonal division is intended to ensure that nature, settlements, tourism and agriculture are harmonized.

Controversial project

Despite the project's ecological ambitions, there is considerable criticism. Farmers and foresters in particular express concerns about possible increasing bureaucracy and strict nature conservation regulations. There is even talk of an alliance of landowners who are questioning the planning approach. However, the Environment Ministry is planning an exit clause that would allow municipalities to withdraw if they experience disadvantages after joining.

From Monday afternoon, maps showing the exact territorial boundaries and protection zones will be published online. Citizens, municipalities and companies can use these maps to find out about zoning and to actively participate in the discussion process. These maps serve as a basis for better communication and discussion about the future of the biosphere area.
