Murder trial in Hochdorf: Afghan perpetrator admitted to psychiatric hospital
On November 15, 2022, a tragic homicide occurred in Hochdorf (Esslingen district) in which a 56-year-old jogger lost his life. The suspected perpetrator is a 25-year-old Afghan national who is now housed in a psychiatric facility. This is reported by the Stuttgart News.
The trial against him has begun at the Stuttgart regional court, with the prosecution accusing him of treacherous murder for base motives. The defendant is accused of attacking the jogger with a “bladed tool”. The victim died from his injuries about 40 minutes after the crime, while there was no prior relationship between him and the defendant. The trial could result in a life sentence if the prosecution is successful SWR Current reported.
Process and background
Immediately after the crime, the defendant fled to another accommodation, where he was arrested a short time later. Investigations suggest that frustration over his transfer from an asylum accommodation in Hochdorf may have led to the crime. He was taken to new accommodation in Wernau a week before the crime.
On the second day of the trial, the 25-year-old was accompanied into the courtroom by two men in civilian clothes. In contrast to the start of the trial in May, where he was accompanied by uniformed officers, on this day he is being led to his seat in Hall Four of the Stuttgart Regional Court without handcuffs.
The trial will continue on June 3, with a total of seven days of hearings scheduled. It remains to be seen how the court hearing will go and what other details will emerge that will shape the picture of the crime and the defendant.
