JSG Balingen-Weilstetten: Two teams conquer the Bundesliga!
In today's announcement by the German Handball Association (DHB), the Bundesliga participation of the A and B youth teams of JSG Balingen-Weilstetten for the coming 2025/26 season was confirmed. This positive news shows that two teams from the Zollernalb district will continue to play at the highest level. As the Swabian newspaper reports, the A-youth team of JSG Balingen-Weilstetten secured their place in the Bundesliga through qualification. The B youth team, on the other hand, was able to qualify through the championship round of the previous season.
The first matchday of the new season will take place on September 13th and 14th, 2025. In the A-youth, the game system of 40 teams in two groups of ten with a return round remains unchanged. The best teams in the 1st league will advance to the quarter-finals of the German championship, while the placements in the 2nd league will be decisive for the DHB Cup. The JSG Balingen-Weilstetten plays in the southern season of the 1st league and will compete against teams such as HC Erlangen and Rhein-Neckar Löwen, among others.
New challenges for young people
The encounter with new opponents, such as HLZ Friesenheim-Hochdorf and TUSEM Essen, will be an exciting challenge for the teams. This also confirms the DHB website, which provides information about the composite B-Youth Bundesliga. The league consists of 48 teams and is the top division for B-youths in Germany. Here the teams are divided into eight groups, each consisting of six teams.
The B youth of JSG Balingen-Weilstetten starts with 48 teams in eight groups of six. Each team has ten games in the preliminary round, and the top three of each preliminary group advance to the championship round. Most of the points earned from the preliminary round are taken over, so that the final participants play a total of 22 games in the championship round. Places four to six in the preliminary round take part in the cup round.
Developments in other youth teams
Another interesting aspect concerns the HSG Hossingen-Meßstetten. After winning the DHB Cup, they decided not to start in the Bundesliga, but instead are aiming for a place in the regional league. In the coming weeks there will be a playoff for the last place in the regional league between HSG Hossingen-Meßstetten and Herrenberg, which is scheduled for June 25th, 2025 at 4 p.m. in the Markweghalle.
Qualification for the regional league is already underway and the teams Allensbach, Göppingen, Stuttgart/Metzingen, Bietigheim, Bottwar, and a few others have qualified. The JSG's C youth teams have also made it into the regional league, while the HSG's C youth teams are still waiting to be assigned to one of the 40 upper leagues.
These developments are a clear indicator of the dynamics and potential of handball in the Zollernalb district and show that youth work continues to have the highest priority.
