Emmen is supporting the sustainable Velo Challenge” with 12,000 francs!
The Emmen climate network can look forward to financial support of 12,000 francs, which was provided by the Albert Koechlin Foundation (AKS). This funding comes as part of the “Velo Challenge” project and aims to promote sustainable mobility in the community of Emmen. The support is part of the seventh call for proposals from the “clever on the move in the real laboratory” program, which has been supporting mobility projects in central Switzerland since 2022, such as nau.ch reported.
The aim of the “Velo Challenge” is to motivate the population of Emmen to switch to cycling more. Under the motto “from Emmen for Emmen”, the initiators invite residents to try out different types of bicycle mobility over a longer period of time at attractive conditions. Test options include trailers, cargo bikes, trolleys, long-tail bikes and electric bikes. This diversity is intended to help more people discover the benefits of cycling.
Financial resources and future tenders
In addition to supporting the Emmen climate network, the Entlebuch biosphere and the city of Lucerne also receive funding from the AKS. In total, three projects were funded with 61,000 francs in this call for proposals, with the project in the Entlebuch Biosphere receiving the most support with 40,000 francs. The city of Lucerne received 9,000 francs for a new offer in the area of sustainable transport, such as aks-stiftung.ch summarizes.
The next tender as part of the “clever on the move in the real laboratory” program runs until the end of October 2025. Annual funding of 200,000 francs is available for these tenders until 2026, which is intended to ensure sustainable support for innovative mobility projects in the region. Both natural and legal persons with a place of residence or business in Lucerne, Nidwalden, Obwalden, Schwyz or Uri are eligible to enter.
Competent decision makers
The funded projects are selected by an independent jury of experts, which includes experts from SBB, Pro Velo Unterwalden and the city of Sursee. These competent members, led by Martino Froelicher as chairman, ensure that the best ideas are promoted in order to sustainably change mobility in central Switzerland.
Projects like the “Velo Challenge” show how important promoting sustainable forms of mobility is for the quality of life in communities. The Albert Koechlin Foundation is thus continuing an important initiative that not only strengthens the local transport infrastructure, but also promotes awareness of environmentally friendly means of transport.
