On Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2025, a dramatic fire was reported in a barn and an adjacent uninhabited residential building in the Sielmingen district of Filderstadt. At around 4:30 p.m., several calls were received in the integrated control center reporting a fire on Heußstrasse. When the first emergency services arrived, flames and smoke were already coming from the roof of the building, which immediately turned the situation into an emergency. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene and deployed 13 vehicles and a total of 63 emergency services to fight the fire, which was achieved in just a short time. Stuttgart News reported that fortunately there were no injuries.
During the event, residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed to protect themselves from the heavy smoke. While the fire brigade contained and finally extinguished the flames, the electricity in the area of the fire was also temporarily switched off; several buildings were affected. The extinguishing work continued until around 7 p.m. and Sielminger Hauptstrasse initially remained closed due to the operation before the traffic closure was lifted at 6:45 p.m.
Damage and investigations
The uninhabited building is classified as uninhabitable until further notice and is considered at risk of collapse. A construction consultant from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) was called in. The property damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros and police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A similar incident occurred on May 15, 2023 in Filderstadt-Bernhausen, when a barn on Untere Bachstrasse was completely on fire. The alerting and operational measures were also significant. The fire department was alerted by the integrated Esslingen control center and had to raise the alarm level shortly after arrival. The material damage in this incident was estimated at around 500,000 euros and demolition of the damaged building had to be initiated. Even then there were no injuries. Police are continuing to investigate and have interviewed witnesses who noticed the heavy smoke.
