Hiking paradise discovered: The most beautiful paths around Metzingen!

The area around Metzingen offers a variety of opportunities for hiking enthusiasts. A particularly attractive hike leads to the surrounding reservoirs and rocks. The tour starts at the Eninger Weide car park and covers a distance of around 11 kilometers, leading through picturesque forests and along the impressive Albtrauf. Hikers can enjoy the impressive landscape of the Swabian Alb, which offers both natural and cultural highlights.

The hike also includes the storage basin of the Glems pumped storage plant, which was built in the 1960s and is used to generate electricity. The small district of Glems, which is located about five kilometers from Metzingen, is also the shortest district of this municipality. The Glems, a 47 kilometer long river, rises in the Glemswald near Stuttgart and finally flows into the Enz.

View and nature

Special viewing points such as the Olgafels (786 m) offer breathtaking views over the Ermstal, the Alb foothills and, on a clear day, even as far as the Alps. The climb to Olgafels is reached after about 6.5 kilometers and leads through a varied landscape. On the way there, hikers circle the Hännersteigfels and the Glasberg (778 m). In addition, the route runs over a steep descent from 773 m to 638 m over 500 meters.

Another highlight of the tour is the Hohe Warte observation tower (820 m), which was built in 1923 by the Swabian Alb Association. From this point there is a comprehensive view of the surrounding landscape, including the region around Tübingen. Hikers can not only enjoy nature, but also take a look at the animal enclosure with deer and wild boars at the reservoir.

Further information about the hike

At the beginning of the hike there are open landscapes with seating and barbecue areas that invite you to take a break. After a walk around the Olgafels and a further hike to the Sonnenfels and Höllenlochen near Dettingen, the return route leads through the St. Johann stud farm before walking the last two kilometers to the Eninger Weide car park.

For nature lovers and hiking lovers, this circular tour is an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of the Swabian Alb up close. Further details about the route are on gea.de and ich-geh-wandern.de to read.
