Revolution in truck traffic: New charging park opened in Esslingen!

A new truck loading park is being built in the Esslingen district. With an area of 2,600 square meters, it is deliberately tailored to the needs of logistics companies in the region. The logistics company from Dettingen unter Teck recently presented the plans for the construction, which will provide three Alpitronic Hyperchargers from October. With an output of 400 kW each, two trucks can be supplied with electricity at the same time on each column. This innovative charging infrastructure is intended to help increase efficiency in the transport and logistics industry.

The charging stations will be provided in a first phase. A second expansion stage with up to 15 charging points for complete truck trains is already planned for 2027 in the Solar Truck Charge Port in order to cover the needs of the growing market for electrically powered trucks. The Esslingen district is thus positioning itself as a pioneer in the implementation of sustainable logistics solutions.

Focus on electromobility

The initiative for sustainable logistics is also being driven forward by Daimler Truck. A new charging park was inaugurated on the factory premises in Wörth, an important location for the production of electric trucks. This enables haulage companies to load their trucks during waiting and unloading times. Eight charging stations have already been put into operation and six more fast-charging stations are being planned, which are designed for future megawatt charging. Initially, the charging stations deliver 400 kW via a CCS plug.

The efficiency of the charging process is increased by a newly installed transformer station with an output of 6 megawatts and a 20,000 volt high-voltage line. Daimler Trucks' in-house charging solution provider TruckCharge is responsible for operating this charging infrastructure. Furthermore, the loading park at the factory entrance at Gate 2 represents a significant improvement for delivery traffic.

Vision for the future

Daimler Truck sets major goals for the electrification of inbound factory transport. 100% electrification should be achieved by 2026. Currently, 20% of the deliveries ordered by Daimler are electrified. It should also be noted that the new charging park should not be confused with the charging facility for end customers that has been installed since 2022.

The Wörth site plays a central role in the series production of electric trucks, starting with the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300/400, whose production began in 2021, to the eActros 600, whose series production will start at the end of November 2023. The increasing focus on electric vehicles is reflected not only in the new building in Esslingen, but also in the willingness to innovate in Wörth, where around 10,000 employees are employed and the plant is the second largest employer in Rhineland-Palatinate.
