On Monday, July 1, 2025, a serious accident occurred in Baltmannsweiler, Esslingen district, in which a 47-year-old cyclist was seriously injured. The cyclist reported that something flew into the eye, which led to losing control of her bike. The injured woman was taken to hospital by the emergency services for inpatient care.
In a similar incident, which also took place on Monday, an 82-year-old cyclist in Starnberg was seriously injured. The driver's view of the sidewalk was limited, which led to the difficult collision. The fire brigade and the emergency services were on duty to free the cyclist and transport them to a hospital. The assignment lasted several hours, and the Moosstrasse was closed in both directions until after 3 p.m.

Both accidents illustrate the dangers that cyclists are exposed to in road traffic. While the 47-year-old cyclist in Baltmannsweiler was treated immediately after her fall, an extensive rescue operation had to be carried out in the case of the 82-year-old cyclist. This included the use of a rescue helicopter that landed near the recycling center to transport the cyclist to a specialized clinic.
In Starnberg, a crisis intervention team was also requested to look after the driver who fell into a state of shock after the accident. The situation also had an impact on the employees and students of the neighboring technical college, since the accident significantly impaired the traffic situation in the area.
The two incidents show the challenges in the interaction of cyclists and motorized traffic. While the injured cyclists are intensively supervised, the causes and circumstances of the accidents are the subject of intensive investigations.
