Mayoral election in Altbach: Funk and Flörchinger in a duel!
The mayoral election in Altbach is just around the corner on October 19, 2025. The incumbent Martin Funk is running again, while Sebastian Flörchinger is entering the race as a challenger. At an event attended by around 400 interested citizens, moderated by Greta Gramberg and Sebastian Xanke, both candidates were surprisingly united in their views.
Martin Funk, who has been working in local government for 27 years and has served as mayor for many years, emphasizes the need for his experience in his statements. Under his leadership there were important successes such as the expansion of child care, the construction of the new “Mosaik” children's home, the new fire station and the construction of fiber optic lines in the commercial area. He would like to further expand on these achievements.
Flörchinger's vision for Altbach
Sebastian Flörchinger, who has lived in Altbach for over ten years and is actively involved in village life, is convinced that Altbach is a wonderful place characterized by community and nature. He sees great potential that has not yet been fully exploited. In his campaign he emphasizes that citizens should be actively involved in the further development of the community. Its central themes include responsible use of resources, sustainable infrastructure and good conditions for families, clubs and companies.
Flörchinger announces that it will promote a modern and citizen-oriented administration and places particular emphasis on open communication and integrative decisions. He sees his candidacy as independent of party, which allows him to bring together different perspectives and develop common solutions.
Road safety and shopping opportunities
A contentious issue that concerns the public is road safety. Flörchinger is calling for a “Kiss & Go Zone” for school children to increase safety when dropping off and picking up. Funk, on the other hand, appeals to parents to walk their children to school and emphasizes the need to maintain contact with the district office in order to find solutions to traffic problems.
Both candidates also agree that tax increases are not necessary and would like to see a better shopping experience in Altbach, especially the opening of an iced coffee and café.
Eligibility and qualification
All residents aged 16 and over who have German or EU citizenship are eligible to vote. The mayor's term of office is eight years. With the upcoming election on October 19, 2025, the course for Altbach's future is in jeopardy. Both candidates invite citizens to place their trust in them and to actively participate in local development.
While Funk builds on his many years of experience, Flörchinger relies on a breath of fresh air and citizen-oriented approaches, which turns the election into an exciting competition for the hearts of Altbach voters. Both candidates are determined to create the best possible future for their community.
