Porsche Taycan Turbo GT breaks records: fastest electric racer!
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT recently set new records as the fastest production electric car, astonishing the automotive world. The impressive best times were achieved on two renowned race tracks: the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. These achievements are officially recognized by the Emirates Motorsport Organization (EMSO), adding further weight to the success of the Taycan Turbo GT.
On the challenging Road Atlanta track, experienced Porsche driver Patrick Long achieved a best time of 1:27.1 minutes. This new record beats the Taycan Turbo S's previous record of 1:33.8 minutes by more than six seconds. What is noteworthy is that this performance was achieved under changeable weather conditions and temperatures of around 24 degrees Celsius.
Performance on the international stage
At the Yas Marina Circuit, Ramez Azzam lapped the track in 2:07.2 minutes, which is just 1.1 seconds over the all-time touring car lap record. Azzam had optimal conditions for this record with nighttime temperatures of almost 28 degrees Celsius. These two records add to an impressive collection of best times that the Taycan Turbo GT has already achieved on various race tracks around the world.
In February 2025, Felipe Nasr set a record at the Interlagos F1 Circuit in São Paulo with 1:42.1 minutes. In addition, Lars Kern set a record at the Shanghai International Circuit in October 2024 with 2:11.28 minutes, making him the fastest production car on this 5.4 kilometer long Formula 1 track. This result is particularly remarkable because it was achieved under difficult weather conditions, namely light rain.
Technical innovations
The Taycan Turbo GT impresses not only with its performance in terms of time, but also with its technical specifications. The peak output is over 1,100 hp, and the vehicle has a special “attack mode” that enables short-term additional power of up to 120 kW. In addition, the weight has been reduced by up to 75 kilograms compared to the Taycan Turbo S, among other things through the use of carbon parts and effective lightweight construction measures.
Both models of the Taycan Turbo GT are equipped with the Porsche Active Ride suspension, which is specifically tailored to the requirements of the GT model. Lars Kern, who is responsible for many of the record runs, highlights the balance and performance of the vehicle, especially when braking in critical corners. The drivetrain's operation and traction are designed to provide maximum performance in every situation.
In summary, the Taycan Turbo GT not only shows that electric vehicles are significantly competitive in racing, but also how far the technology in electromobility has advanced. For those interested, the model will be available from spring 2024, with a starting price of 240,000 euros in Germany.
