E-scooter accident in Weil im Schönbuch: 18-year-old seriously injured!

On Monday afternoon there was a serious accident in Weil im Schönbuch in which an 18-year-old woman on an e-scooter was hit by a Württemberg Railway Company train. The incident occurred at the unbarred level crossing on Bäumlesweg. At the time of the accident there were around 30 people on the train who fortunately were uninjured.

The Stuttgart public prosecutor's office has already initiated an investigation to clarify the exact cause of the accident. An expert has been commissioned to investigate the circumstances of the incident. According to initial information, the level crossing was equipped with a St. Andrew's cross and a red flashing light, which means that traffic has to wait when the flashing light is activated.

The reaction of the emergency services

After the accident, the seriously injured woman was immediately flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter. The fire brigade looked after the around 30 passengers on the train and led them out of the train after approval from the emergency manager. The DRK local association provided those affected with drinks on site.

On Tuesday afternoon, the area around the railway crossing was quiet again. A walker with her dog was the only sign of life in the immediate vicinity of the accident scene. The ringing warning signal and the red lights above St. Andrew's Cross may have been active at the time of the accident, but the exact details are currently part of the ongoing investigation by the Ludwigsburg Traffic Police Inspectorate.

Investigations and security aspects

The Stuttgart public prosecutor's office will closely examine the results of the investigation in order to clarify responsibility. Given the fact that there are no barriers at the level crossing, the question arises as to the safety precautions at such crossings. The current regulations state that when the flashing light is activated, crossing traffic is obliged to wait, which must be taken into account in this case.

Additionally, the resolution of this tragic incident will help discuss possible improvements to safety measures at level crossings to prevent similar accidents in the future. We will continue to monitor and report developments on this matter.

Further information about the investigation and the course of the accident can be found in the articles by Stuttgart News and SZBZ to find.
