The development of boxing in Germany
Boxing has an eventful history in Germany. The “German Reich Association for Amateur Boxing” was founded as early as 1920 and promoted the development of the sport. The first German championships attracted large numbers of spectators and led to the founding of many boxing clubs in cities, especially in Berlin. The German Boxing Association describes, how boxing continued to grow and became part of school sports, which helped raise active youth. After the Second World War, the sport experienced some restrictions, but with the regional associations and the later reunification of the two boxing associations, the sport of boxing developed greatly.
In recent decades, German boxers have achieved numerous international successes. Particularly notable is winning medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. These achievements not only inspire the current generation of athletes, but also promote interest and participation in boxing in Germany. The successes of the last few years are a reminder that the history of the sport lives in every ring area and that the next generation is ready to build on these traditions.
