The current ADFC bicycle climate test gave the city of Sindelfingen a devastating grade of 4.5. This puts the city at the bottom of the rating scale in this test, which has been carried out for the eleventh time since 2024. In this comprehensive survey, in which around 213,000 cyclists nationwide took part, the respondents rated the bike-friendliness of their places of residence. Over 30,000 participants were active in Baden-Württemberg, making the region an essential part of the overall German cycling infrastructure.
The test, funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, took place from September to November 2024. Participants were able to rate the conditions for cyclists using a questionnaire. ADFC reports that The results of the survey are intended to help municipalities make targeted improvements to the infrastructure and adapt them to the needs of cyclists.
Rating in the Böblingen district
Compared to Sindelfingen, the surrounding cities perform differently. Rutesheim receives the best rating in the Böblingen district with a grade of 2.4. Böblingen, Herrenberg and Leonberg, on the other hand, only receive mediocre to moderate grades, usually just barely sufficient. The Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports that the average school grade for the cycling climate in Baden-Württemberg has fallen from 3.9 to around 3.8.
Peter Grotz, chairman of the ADFC Böblingen district association, is calling for concrete measures to improve cycling conditions. This includes reducing the speed of car traffic, securing crossings and removing obstacles on cycle paths. He emphasizes the need for consistent traffic monitoring and the optimization of cycling traffic, especially at construction sites.

A central goal of the ADFC bicycle climate test is to increase cyclists' satisfaction with local conditions. This survey allows people to express their experiences and wishes, which is very important for transport planning. The interactive map with the results shows how different perceptions of cycling are in different cities and communities.
To ensure a comprehensive assessment, the survey required at least 50 votes per city, and in larger cities there had to be at least 75 or 100 votes. A total of 172 cities and communities in Germany were included in the evaluation, including ten in the Böblingen district.
