Kleemann new mayor in Sindelfingen: A breath of fresh air for the city!

Markus Kleemann (CDU) will be the new mayor of Sindelfingen on May 26, 2025. The 40-year-old succeeds Mayor Vöhringer and brings with him valuable experience that he has gained in his ten years as mayor of Oberstefeld. Kleemann already said on May 11 that voters wanted a candidate with mayoral experience, which apparently paid off.

In the first round he was 273 votes behind the first-placed Max Reinhardt (FDP), but won the decisive runoff with 50.25% of the votes and a lead of only 79 votes. How Stuttgart News reports, Kleemann is expected to stay in Oberstefeld until the end of July 2025 to complete some projects.

Projects and goals in Sindelfingen

Markus Kleemann plans to strengthen retail and crafts in Sindelfingen and attract more start-ups. He has also set himself the goal of making the city safer and cleaner and promoting street renovation. He sees the close election result as an incentive to convince voters who did not vote for him. Around 20 supporters from Oberstefeld were present at the runoff election in Sindelfingen, which gave Kleemann courage and support.

During his tenure in Oberstefeld, he took important initiatives, including opening a refugee shelter and closing a primary school due to a strained budget situation. Kleemann has also been actively involved in volunteer work, which is highly valued in local politics.

By-elections in Oberstefeld

With Kleemann's move to Sindelfingen, a new mayor will be elected in Oberstefeld. These are scheduled for autumn 2025. There will be no election in August. The political framework for local elections, as set out in Article 28 of the Basic Law, guarantees broad participation of citizens in the elections and thus a representative democracy, reports bpb.de.

In Germany, mayors are usually elected for a period of five to eight years, although the regulations can vary depending on the federal state. Local elections are often characterized by local issues and have, on average, a lower voter turnout than elections to state parliaments or the Bundestag.

Markus Kleemann is faced with the exciting task of setting the tone as the new mayor of Sindelfingen and getting citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of their city.
