Corpus Christi festival in Sindelfingen: procession and community festival on June 19th!
The traditional Corpus Christi festival will take place in Sindelfingen on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The ceremony begins at 9.30 a.m. on the town hall forecourt, organized by the Catholic parishes of the Sindelfingen city center as well as the Italian, Croatian and Portuguese communities. It is a significant solemnity of the Catholic Church that celebrates the abiding presence of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of the Eucharist and is observed 60 days after Easter, on the second Thursday after Pentecost.
The Corpus Christi procession leads past several station altars, starting at the town hall square and continuing over the monastery lake, the town hall to the Trinity Church. The procession is musically accompanied by the Sindelfingen city band. After the procession, the Eucharist celebration begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Trinity Church.
Community festival afterwards
After the service, a community festival is planned in the courtyard next to the Trinity Church. Various delicacies, including lunch, coffee and cake, are provided for participants.
During the celebrations, some streets, including Böblinger Straße, Vaihinger Straße and Gansackerweg, will be closed briefly to ensure the procession runs smoothly.
Meaning of the Eucharist
The feast of Corpus Christi has its roots in Catholic teaching on the Eucharist. According to the scriptures, Jesus speaks to the people and declares that he is the living bread that has come from heaven. He says that those who eat his flesh and drink his blood will have eternal life. This is based on the central belief that the Eucharist contains the life that Jesus offers to believers. The controversial discussions that Jesus triggers among the Jews are direct allusions to the challenges of faith and discipleship. Whoever eats this bread will live forever, as the teachings emphasize.
Overall, the community can expect a beautiful festival that celebrates both the spiritual and communal dimensions of faith. The Corpus Christi procession is not only a religious tradition, but also an occasion for the community to come together and celebrate their solidarity.
