VfB Stuttgart triumphs in the WFV Cup: Herrenberg has to admit defeat!

On May 30, 2025, the women's WFV Cup final took place between VfL Herrenberg and VfB Stuttgart. VfB Stuttgart clearly won 5-1 and thus secured the title. The game took place in front of a remarkable backdrop that put the two champion teams of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and the Regionalliga in the spotlight. VfL Herrenberg had previously become champions of the Oberliga and returned to the Regionalliga, while VfB Stuttgart had won the Regionalliga without a single defeat and was thus promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The latter was associated with an impressive haul of 116 goals in just 22 games. However, for some VfB players, such as Leonie Maier and Mandy Islacker, this was the last game at the club as they will be leaving the club. This made the final particularly important for both sides.

The coach of VfL Herrenberg, Steven Riechers, was disappointed after the game. Despite the opponent's clear victory, he noted that his team had had a long and grueling season and was now looking forward to a well-deserved break. Riechers emphasized that he would have liked the chance to win the double after VfL Herrenberg won the championship. He described the difference in squad quality between the two teams as “brutal”. His team had only lost one of 17 games in the league and thus had a strong season.

The path to the final

VfL Herrenberg's path to the final was impressive. In the second round they defeated TSV Frommern 4:2, followed by a close 6:5 in the round of 16 against TSV Neuenstein after penalties. In the quarter-finals they won 1-0 against TSV Münchingen II and beat TSV Tettnang 2-1 in the semi-finals.

VfB Stuttgart, on the other hand, dominated their way to the final. At FSV Waldebene they won 3-0 in the second round, followed by an overwhelming 10-1 in the round of 16 against SV Jungingen. In the quarter-finals, VfB Eutingen left no chance with a 5-0 win and dismantled their own second team 6-0 in the semi-finals.

Specifics of the endgame

The final was not just a duel on the pitch, but also a meeting between two successful coaches and their champion teams. Riechers left no doubt that he saw the potential of his players, but he still had to admit defeat to the superiority of VfB Stuttgart. The game was an exhibition for the Stuttgart women, who impressively demonstrated their championship and crowned their outstanding season with the cup victory.

For everyone involved, an unforgettable final will remain in the memory, honoring the achievements of both teams and at the same time fueling anticipation for the next season. Krzbb reports on the players' feelings after the defeat, while the tension surrounding the question of the double in the FuPa is rekindled. The discussion about the squad and the changes in the team will certainly continue in the media in the coming weeks.
