Herrenberg women in the cup final: David against Goliath!

The women's team from Herrenberg has once again reached the final of the Württemberg Association Cup. This is particularly remarkable since the last time they took part in the final was three years ago. Selina Walter, one of the players, expresses her mixed feelings: On the one hand, she feels relief about the reduction in pressure in the league, but on the other hand, she is looking forward to the upcoming cup final.

Walter, who moved to Herrenberg from Karlsruhe two years ago, previously played in the 2nd Bundesliga in Ingolstadt, Frankfurt and Sindelfingen. Although VfB Stuttgart was recently promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, they hardly follow the team and the focus for the Herrenberg women is clearly on their own league. While Stuttgart won the league without defeat, Herrenberg suffered two defeats before they also celebrated promotion.

The upcoming duel

In the new season both teams will play in different leagues. Walter expects a hard-fought game in which both teams will give their all. It highlights the opponent's strengths, which are reflected in consistency, confident victories, lots of goals and a broad squad structure. Stuttgart scored 116 league goals this season, while Herrenberg has 76 goals.

Despite these numbers, Walter sees an opportunity for Herrenberg. As underdogs, they could potentially be underestimated by their opponents. She emphasizes the cohesion and team spirit of her team, which consists of courage, fight, sacrifice, passion, discipline and dedication. Walter compares this belief in himself with the biblical story of David versus Goliath.

An exciting competition

Football in Germany has a long tradition and the DFB Cup, in which the Herrenberg women now want to make a strong statement, enjoys a high reputation. In the past, numerous renowned clubs have distinguished themselves in this competition. The previous cup winners include teams like 1. FFC Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg, who have proven themselves over the years, as the DFB statistics shows.

The spectators can look forward to a competitive game in which the Herrenberg women want to show what they are made of. The final of the Württemberg Association Cup could be the perfect setting to prove yourself against the big VfB Stuttgart.
