Drama in Freiberg: 62-year-olds help Audi cause a spectacular accident!

On the night of June 1, 2025, a spectacular traffic accident occurred in Freiberg am Neckar, which luckily resulted in no injuries. At around 12:45 a.m., a 62-year-old woman was driving her Audi on Johannesstrasse. The incident, which occurred due to a mix-up between the accelerator and brake, resulted in the vehicle leaving the road in a left-hand bend and jumping over a small wall. The Audi ended up on the roof of a parked Mercedes. Another parked Mercedes and a house wall were also damaged. The total property damage amounts to around 75,000 euros. The accident was an isolated incident and there were no injuries. The Audi had to be rescued with a crane, reports News.de.

The Ludwigsburg police, who were responsible for recording the accident, documented the incident and will take possible legal action. The incident underlines the need for comprehensive education about the dangers of road traffic. Press portal points out the importance of preventive measures and road safety in order to avoid similar incidents.

The role of road safety

The ADAC has been researching the causes of serious traffic accidents in Germany since 2005. The aim of this research is to provide recommendations for accident prevention and reducing sequelae. The ADAC has always found that driver distraction or tiredness are often the cause of accidents. For example, over 10% of traffic accidents outside urban areas are caused by distracted or tired drivers. This highlights the need to educate drivers and promote safety campaigns to minimize the risk of accidents. Further information on accident research is available from ADAC.

Furthermore, the study of accident data shows that country roads are particularly dangerous. In 2023, 57% of road deaths and 39% of serious injuries came from these roads. It has also been found that drivers aged 65 and over are more likely to cause accidents, which underlines the urgency of specific traffic training for older road users.

In order to increase safety on the roads, the ADAC is committed to introducing modern assistance systems. These could help reduce the number of traffic accidents and the severity of injuries.
