On June 1, 2025, the 2nd Bavarian Snow Plow Championship will take place in Schönberg in the Freyung-Grafenau district. The event promises not only exciting competitions, but also a varied supporting program. A total of 24 teams from different regions will take part, including last year's winning team from Schönberg, which wants to defend its title against the competition from Marktredwitz. This was reported by the PNP, which will also offer a live ticker on site from 10 a.m.
The event day starts early, with qualifying starting at 7:30am. From 1:30 p.m. the top ten teams will compete against each other in an exciting final. The award ceremony is planned for 4:00 p.m. and will be conducted by Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer. In addition to the competitions, there will be training on Saturday, May 31st from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during which participants can prepare for the challenges typical of the championship.
Challenges and supporting program
The participants have to complete a variety of winter-like tasks during the competition. This includes narrow passages, precise maneuvering with heavy equipment and placing it down with millimeter precision. The differently designed courses were designed in such a way that they also contribute to safety and efficiency in winter service.
A special highlight of the event is the accompanying program that will take place on Saturday evening. This includes entertainment and information on topics such as municipal technology, forestry and agriculture. Activities such as a bouncy castle and a bobby car course are offered for younger visitors. There is also a marquee where a spring exhibition takes place and an overview of police and other service providers is provided.
Arrival options and parking spaces
Parking is available for those arriving in the industrial area near Saunstein. From there, free bus shuttles will be offered to the venue to optimize the flow of visitors.
The 2nd Bavarian Snow Plow Championship is not just a competition, but also contributes to the recognition of the profession of snow plow driver. This tradition is supported by the positive response at similar events such as the first German Snow Plow Drivers' Championship, which took place in 2017 and was praised by experts and the press. There the best drivers were able to qualify for the World Championship in Gdansk, which is supported by PIARC.
The championship challenges and the idea of the competition are an integral part of the cultural landscape in Bavaria, and the participants are looking forward to an exciting and educational event on the first weekend in June.
