5,000 euros for your project: How to strengthen civic engagement!

Civic engagement in the Freyung-Grafenau region is once again receiving financial support from the LEADER funding program. In the funding period from 2023 to 2027, a total budget of 55,556 euros is available. 90 percent of this sum, i.e. 50,000 euros, comes from EU funds. This reports muw-nachrichten.de.

The Local Action Group (LAG) Freyung-Grafenau District e. V. supports small projects that strengthen civic engagement. The funding amount is up to 5,000 euros per project, and applications can be submitted in the form of a plan of measures until July 22, 2025. Tobias Niedermeier, managing director of the LAG, is the contact person for interested parties and is available on 08551/57-1040.

Funding requirements and use of funds

To be eligible for funding, the projects must serve the goals of the Local Development Strategy (LES) and offer recognizable added value. Measures that strengthen civic engagement are supported, but not grants, ongoing or recurring events, or municipal corporations and companies. The grants can amount to between 300 and a maximum of 5,000 euros, depending on the proven net investment costs. The funding rate is 80 percent of the proven costs.

The LAG decision-making committee decides on the funding applications, and the next meeting will take place on July 29, 2025. Successful projects such as a media meeting for seniors and the expansion of a village community playground were already funded in the last funding period from 2014 to 2022.

Examples of successful projects

The LEADER program supports over ten regions across Germany in creating their development strategies. Private individuals, companies, clubs, associations and municipalities are eligible to apply. For example, in other places, projects for the energy-efficient renovation of educational centers or the construction of open-air stages for theater performances were funded. These projects contribute to improving local supplies, strengthening coexistence and promoting environmental and climate protection sweco-gmbh.de describes.

Another example concerns the creation of raised beds and insect-friendly pastures, which contribute to biodiversity. Such measures show how LEADER projects not only strengthen civic engagement, but also contribute to the development of the region and the quality of life of its residents.

Overall, LEADER funding offers a valuable opportunity to support initiatives that promote local cohesion and at the same time implement innovative ideas for the development of the Freyung-Grafenau region.
