Aerial bomb defused in Böblingen: A81 and traffic free again!

Today, a 250 kilogram aircraft bomb from the Second World War was successfully defused at a construction site on the A81 motorway near Böblingen. The explosive device found between Böblingen and Sindelfingen posed a serious danger, which is why an extensive evacuation process was necessary. According to Welt, all affected people were allowed back into their buildings late in the evening after defusing had been completed.

As part of the evacuation measures, a radius of 400 meters around the site was cordoned off. Around 500 people had to leave their homes and workplaces, mainly guests of a hotel, people in an event hall and military personnel from a police barracks. The Motor World and the Wildermuth barracks on the Böblingen airfield were also particularly affected, while part of the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen was not evacuated because the employees had already finished work SWR.

Evacuation and traffic restrictions

The evacuation was completed as scheduled at 10:30 p.m., followed by the bomb defusal, which occurred approximately 45 minutes later. Prior to defusing, there was no immediate threat to residents or traffic and police had been monitoring the area with drones to ensure safety during the process.

In addition, the A81 and several roads within a 400-meter radius were temporarily closed, which had a significant impact on traffic in the region. The S-Bahn lines S1 and S60 as well as regional and long-distance traffic between Böblingen and Sindelfingen/Stuttgart-Vaihingen also had to be stopped. These closures were gradually lifted after successful defusing, restoring traffic flow in the region, reported Welt.

The entire operation highlights the importance of effective security precautions when dealing with such dangerous finds. After the incident, residents and those affected were relieved and grateful for the rapid response of the emergency services.
