The SPD member of the state parliament Florian Wahl started his shocking “Tour of Ideas” today to focus on the alarming financial concerns of municipalities. In a frightening exchange with the mayors of Altdorf, Ehningen, Waldenbuch, Magstadt, Weil im Schönbuch, Sindelfingen and Böblingen it became clear: the situation is CRITICAL!
The decline in company profits seems to cast a dark shadow over the economically strong district. The shocking effects of this crisis are already being felt and are significantly weakening the financial foundation of communities. Wahl made catastrophic comments about the fatal consequences of US tariff policy and the fierce competition with China in the automotive sector, which threatens to drag city governments into the abyss.
Demand for a municipal billion!
In the midst of this frightening reality, the voices of mayors are rising to ask for IMMEDIATE HELP! Florian Wahl is urgently calling for an unprecedented billion municipalities for infrastructure investments in order to avert the financial insolvency of municipalities. “The country must finally release money for the municipalities!” Wahl calls out desperately, revealing the SUFFERING of the citizens who are suffering from merciless financial pressure!
The comparison to the situation in Rhineland-Palatinate, where state aid payments amounting to over 600 million euros have been made available, is also incredible, while Baden-Württemberg, with a critical budget of 4.5 billion euros for risks, simply remains inactive. This shocking delay could have fatal consequences for citizens' quality of life!
A dismal outcome
The history of the devastating infrastructure program, which was launched by the federal government with 3.5 billion euros for the years 2015 to 2024, shows further alarming signs! With only 99.5% of funds drawn down by the end of 2024 and a critical evaluation, it is obvious that support is not nearly enough to close the gap between wealthy and financially weak municipalities. This clearly shows that the program has little effect in the first few years!
Who would have thought that between 2015 and 2023, capital expenditure in the subsidized municipalities increased by a shocking 77%, while non-subsidized municipalities only had a meager 48%? These LEVEL MIRRORS result in poorer communities continuing to be sidelined while the rich thrive!
The pressure is growing!
Time is running out! Wahl points to the indispensable need to provide municipalities with better financial resources in order not only to ensure their survival, but also to protect the quality of life of their citizens. “We cannot allow the cities to slip into insolvency!” shouted the MP, alarming not only the city leaders, but also the entire population!
