Wallenstein Festival 2025: Spectacular festival in Altdorf!

The city of Altdorf expects a boost in importance in the summer of 2025, when the traditional Wallenstein Festival takes place from June 27th to July 27th, 2025. Mayor Michael Cerny was personally invited to witness this spectacular event. A delegation in historical costume delivered the invitation to him and the citizens of Amberg as part of a festive start.

The Wallenstein Festival, which is held every three years, is characterized by constantly growing interest and usually attracts around 1,000 participants. Next year the focus will be on two central plays: Friedrich Schiller's “Wallenstein” and the folk play “Wallenstein in Altdorf” by Franz Dittmar. This cultural event brings the audience together in the historic old town of Altdorf and offers an extensive open-air theater with lively camp life.

Program highlights and attractions

One of the most spectacular events is the Long Night on July 12, 2025, which lasts until the early hours of the morning. The opening concert, which will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Nuremberg University of Music, also promises a musical highlight. In addition, cabaret artist Django Asül and drummer Wolfgang Haffner provide humorous interludes to entertain visitors.

Performances of the folk play take place on Sundays and the evenings of July 4th and 18th. Schiller's work will be performed on Saturdays, July 11th and 25th. The productions take place in the inner courtyard of the former university, where Albrecht von Wallenstein once studied. This enables a special connection to the historical figure and the venue.

Cultural environment and family offerings

In addition to the theater performances, a historical field camp will be set up on the market square and castle square, where visitors can experience crafts, music and culinary delicacies. A festive parade will move through the streets of Altdorf every weekend and round off the extensive supporting program, which has been continuously expanded since the Wallenstein Festival Association was founded in 1959.

Special features such as advance ticket sales offer discounts for children, schoolchildren, students and people with disabilities, as well as a family tariff specifically for the folk play. The Wallenstein Festival has been an important cultural tradition since 1894 and presents an impressive performance with its volunteer actors. Alexander Etzel-Raguse is responsible for the artistic direction, while the more than 600 club members, including almost 1,000 active participants, make the festival possible.

In addition, the International Guitar Festival will take place in Hersbruck in August 2025 - an event that will further enrich the cultural life of the region and promote an exchange between musicians and interested parties.
