Forest hut in Offenhausen ablaze! Police are investigating arson

On May 22, 2025, a forest hut in Offenhausen in the Nürnberger Land district was completely destroyed. The fire report reached the emergency services at 7:00 p.m. after an alarmed witness discovered the fire. The fire department was immediately alerted and arrived with forces from Offenhausen, Breitenbrunn and Kucha. Despite the quick intervention, the hut was already fully ablaze when the fire brigade arrived, resulting in an estimated property damage of around 8,000 euros. Fortunately, no one was injured. The criminal police in Schwabach are now investigating suspected intentional arson and are asking for information from witnesses who have seen suspicious people. These reports can be reached by calling 0911 2112 – 3333.

The incident in Offenhausen is not the only fire that has recently affected the region. Just a few weeks earlier, on May 6, 2025, another fire broke out in Schwabach, causing the entire roof structure of an uninhabited house to burn. In this case too, the fire brigade was on site with numerous emergency services and around 20 vehicles. This was the third fire at this location, so the criminal police are also investigating this case on suspicion of serious arson. Particularly noticeable was a woman with a dog who was seen at the time in question.

Investigations and calls for witnesses

The investigations in both cases are intensive and use information from the public. In Schwabach, witnesses who saw a woman with a dog in the area of the apartment building between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. should also come forward. Police are particularly interested in information about suspicious people or vehicles that may be connected to the fire. The damage caused by the fire in Schwabach amounts to around 750,000 euros. The fire department was on duty there for over five hours before the fire was finally extinguished.

The current fire danger situation is influenced by weather conditions. Forest fires are an increasing problem in Germany, especially in densely populated regions. Statistics show that preventative measures are necessary to reduce the number and size of fires in the future. Forest fire data from federal states has been collected since the 1970s to create fire risk forecasts and improve risk assessment. Protecting and conserving forests has become more important in recent years, which also underlines the need to focus on early interventions.

In summary, the situation in the Nuremberg region is worrying. The investigation into the fires in Offenhausen and Schwabach has the highest priority as deliberate arson is suspected. Citizens are called upon to provide information to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future fires.
